Heritage Link Brands

heritagelinks

What they do:
The first American company dedicated to distributing African wines.

Inspiration:
During a 2005 trip to South Africa’s Sowato Wine Festival, Selena Cuffe learned something. Even though the country was 80 percent black, people of color made up less than 2 percent of its $3 billion wine industry. Cuffe wanted to change all that.

About the business:
Armed with $70,000 from savings and credit card loans, Selena and her husband Khary founded Heritage Link Brands, the first company dedicated to distributing African Wines. Today Heritage Link gives African wine entrepreneurs worldwide exposure and shares their unique stories online. Sales have gone from $100,000 in 2007, to more than $1 million today.
