Pillow Pets

Pillow Pets

This $300 million dollar company was inspired by watching kids nap. Learn how one mom created an improbable empire, by combining pillows … and stuffed animals.

What they do:
Create stuffed animals that unfold into plush pillows.

Inspiration:
In 2003, Jennifer Telfer created Pillow Pets after watching her kids smash down their stuffed animals, to sleep on them like a pillow.

About the business:
Telfer created cuddly stuffed animals that unfolded into plush pillows, giving themnames like Cozy Cow, Snuggly Puppy and Puffy Duck. During the Holiday Season she hawked her Pillow Pets at a nearby mall kiosk, and then at a home show. When she nearly sold out, she knew she had a winner and took her idea nationally. In less than seven years, Pillow Pets pulled in a plush $300 million in sales.
