The Cheesehead

9985cheeseheadsmall-jpg

This entrepreneur turned an insult into a profitable cultural icon. Learn what inspired a Green Bay Packer fan to invent … the foam Cheesehead. Hear story behind the Cheesehead.

What they do:
Make fun cheesy apparel items out of foam.

Inspiration:
It started when Ralph Bruno of Wisconsin kept hearing the mocking nickname that Illinois people gave to Wisconsinites: Cheese-Heads. So he thought, why not embrace the Slur?

About the business:
Bruno took leftover foam from his mother’s re-upholstered couch and shaped it into a wedge, burned holes in it, and painted it yellow. Then off he went to a Milwaukee Brewers game wearing the world’s first official Cheesehead. It got so much positive attention that he knew he was onto something. Bruno then founded a company called Formation where he mass produced the wacky wedges which have become a very profitable cultural icon.
