We Do Lines

These guys became successful by reading between the lines. It helped them find a niche in a $1 billion dollar business.

Chris Couri, Dan Rella, and Tom Darrow owned landscaping businesses in Connecticut. In 2008, they found themselves in a bind. One of their parking lots needed striping — you know, those white lines that tell you where to park.

They called over a dozen companies to get their lot striped, and were shocked when only two called back! At that moment, the three realized that the billion dollar parking lot striping industry was sorely under-served. It lacked standards, professionalism, and a major national player.

They looked at each other and thought — why not us?

So Couri, Rella and Darrow stepped up to the plate. They bought a striping machine, set up a website, and started their own line-striping business. They called it “We Do Lines,” and began staying up nights striping parking lots in Connecticut, while spending winters in Florida striping for resorts.

Then, they took the business one-step further, franchising it nationally. Today, franchisees use state of the art equipment to do line-striping, with all paint provided by Sherwin-Williams, North America’s largest single-source paint and coatings supplier. It’s specifically formulated for parking lots and dries within 30 minutes.

The company even has a We Do Lines University — a Florida training center where franchisees receive instruction in painting, safety, sales and customer service. We Do Lines is also a savvy marketer. It even puts its name and logo on its parking lot cones – seeing every job as a branding opportunity.

Today, We Do Lines has more than 20 franchisees nationally, with clients such as Starbucks, Target, Dunkin’ Donuts, Toys ‘R’ Us, and the National Park Service.

Chris Couri, Dan Rella, and Tom Darrow exemplify an axiom featured on our website: Use a bad experience to create a better business.

We Do Lines – America’s first parking lot line striping franchise. Now Why Didn’t I Think of That?
